CV Clinic @ Project 2% Conference

I had the pleasure of of being invited down to the Project 2% Conference 2024 organised in by Black Excellence Network and Badu. The  Conference was designed for Black UK-based undergraduates. The aims of Project 2% are to provide Black undergraduates with insights into various industry pathways, equip them with the knowledge to excel in their chosen fields, and share perspectives on the unique Black experience in professional settings.

I was able to provide CV reviews for students interested in going into creative fields like animation, graphic design and marketing. It was incredible to be able to provide feedback and ensure that the students are putting their best foot forward through their CVs.

"I attended a CV clinic which was really beneficial, as I was given great tips by BB who advised me to reconstruct my work experience sections to highlight my achievements more effectively. This advice was really helpful as I will now be able to make my CV more impactful and professional. This clinic was truly a game-changer!" - Funmi Adelaja

Workshop Host @ Roundhouse Works

I was invited by the wonderful team at Transmission Roundhouse to be a guest speaker at an event for their young podcast producers.

I took the opportunity to counter myths about passions not being a feasible option for building a sustainable career as a creative freelancer. By exploring in depth how to build a brand from the ground up, attendees were given clear insight into how to succeed in their chosen endeavours.

3 x Event Host @ Christmas Connect

Christmas Connect is a joint-platform Christmas Carol event featuring a variety of community groups within Kent.

This event featured the local Salvation Army Band, Medway Community Gospel Choir, as well as fantastic choirs from local primary schools. This year was my second year co-hosting this incredible event in front of a live audience of 1,000+, plus a further virtual audience of 3,500+.

Workshop Host @ 22 Impact Agency

Recently started working with the great 22 Impact team as a Workshop Host for their roster of model and influencer talent.

A key focus of this partnership is to help educate their community on how to succeed within the industry via detailed and thorough tutorials. I have designed a structured curriculum of informative and engaging sessions to help prepare attendees for the realities of the industry that they're in, and some tips they'll need along the way.

Thousand Faces Club Feature

Had the pleasure of sharing with the lovely folks over at Thousand Faces Club on what I think are the biggest challenges within the creative field, the role of women in shaping the creator economy plus the trends I expect to continue this 2023. It really gave me an opportunity to stop and take stock of just how much the landscape of creativity has changed since the 5 years I entered the industry. There's been a whole lot of change, but also a whole lot of promise to match

I'm so desperate for creativity to be seen as a viable option - making great money from what you’re good at shouldn’t be a luxury only afforded to a select few.

Akowé Collective

Alongside my co-founders, Deborah and Gabriel, we were able to launch the creative collective - Akowé. Building Community @ Contact

For about 12 months, I worked within the Contact team as the Community Experience Officer. Contact is a platform where you can book models, photographers and hair and makeup artists all in one place. A huge part of my role there was to help refine and refocus community efforts through hosting webinars and events. The educational webinars were interactive and inspiring offering crucial help and advise to the 1000+ creatives on the platform. The events were largely networking based in nature, affording our creatives an opportunity to connect and build their own community.

Panellist @ University of Warwick African - Carribean Society's Aspire Conference 2023

I was invited to be a panellist member as part of the Aspire Conference - it was an incredible time considering the topic 'The Power Of Now'. It was so humbling to be a room of great minds, unearthed potential and undiscovered realities! I found it incredibly nostalgic for me because my very own story started in a room just like the one we were in. I was able to give advice on getting started as a creative, practical steps to succeed in the industry and why creativity is a valuable skill for everybody!

Key takeaways for me included: it's okay to not know where you're going, you'll find your passion by failing-forwards; it's not about how GOOD you are, but about how STRATEGIC you are at leveraging opportunities and networks; 2 min rule = if you can do it in 2 minutes, just do it now (procrastination is the ultimate thief of time); 24 hours rule = spend 24hrs celebrating a win, spend 24hrs mourning a loss, then get back to work; often you have to alienate people who don't get it, in order to resonate with the people that do (your tribe)and the law of attraction is nothing without the law of action! Going + Learning = Growing.
